Instructions to add entries to Norm Fisher's Researchers Lists.
Before reading this, you should read the About the Researchers Lists topic.
These lists are intended to provide a way for cousins to link up and share information. They are NOT a vehicle for posting lost relative information with the hopes that someone will complete your line for you. ANY submissions with the word "NEED" in them will be very carefully screened, as it would appear that your intention is incorrect for this listing. (We've all seen them .. multiple postings saying something like "Peter Franklin b 1756 IN .. NEED information on parents").
It is expected that you review the type of information presented here before attempting to format and submit new information for this list. It is also expected that you have reviewed the data posted already to make sure that your ancestor is not already listed.
If you are adding a new primary ancestor (see below), following the instructions here. If you are simply requesting to be added as a cousin on an existing page, then skip the primary ancestor paragraph and just send in your lineage information as well as your contact information.
The information should be 1) all the details you have about one specific person (your primary ancestor) and his immediate children, 2) very brief information on your line from this person to your parents, and 3) optional contact information for yourself as well as any web pages you want to publicize.
First, the primary ancestor paragraph: I don't want to include too much information, as it will make it difficult to scan for the information that someone is looking for. I will include as much information as you want, though, if you format it according to the specifications developed for this listing. Review the following example paragraph as well as the detailed information following carefully before formatting your ancestor information for submission.

- Note the capitalization .. First names are initial-letter capitalized. Last names are fully capitalized.
- FISHER is included only on the base name; it is assumed that the others are FISHER unless they are listed. (NOTE: FISCHER would be included).
- Dates are formatted as DAY MONTH3 YEAR (12 Jun 1789 - 3-letter capitalized month names) rather than MO/DY/YR (6/12/1789).
- Note the use of abbreviations for (b)orn, (m)arried, (m2)arried second time (m3, m4), (d)ied, (bef)ore, (aft)er, (abt)about. Note the LACK of periods on these abbreviations.
- "in" is NOT included (b 6 Jul 1777 in Glockstom Co, NC).
You may give as much of this information as you have or want to give, some people simply list the children's names rather than giving information on them. Some people want full children listings from the primary ancestor through to themselves; others want just the first two generations. IF you include the material perfectly formatted, I will include as much information on your direct line as you want. IF you don't format it perfectly, I'll just include the first two generations (your primary ancestor and his children). Any amount of inforamation is fine, but remember that more information may lead to easier linkups.
Your primary ancestor may or may not be your earliest ancestor. If you have no details on the earliest person in your file, then feel free to skip over him and list his child (or even his grand-child). James Shuman has submitted his information in this format; check out his information for the format to use in this case.
Second, the lineage information: This is the very brief line showing the generation(s) from your primary ancestor to your parents. An example follows:
Daniel - Moleston - Jacob - Daniel - Jacob Rezin - Lawrence Elbert:In this case only the full name is listed (omitting any FISHER last names), from the primary ancestor to my father. Optionally, you can use the format below that includes birth-death years. This gives a bit more useful information, and is only slightly less readable.
Daniel - Moleston (1775-1820) - Jacob (1805-1883) - Daniel (1836-1907) - Jacob Rezin (1867-1950) - Lawrence Elbert (1905-1984):Third and finally, the contact information: Include whether you do or do not want your E-Mail address posted, and whether you have any Web pages where your genealogy is listed.
Since the goal of this listing is to assist cousins in getting together, it is therefore to your advantage to list all known cousins of a common ancestor, so that you and all your cousins (known and soon to be discovered!) can have an information base to build their ancestoral knowledge. After submitting information to be posted, you should receive a note giving you a web address for your page. You should forward this information to all your known cousins, asking them to post their lineage information as well.
Thank you VERY much for taking the time to read this and format your material according to the standards set forth here. We recognize that ours is a new way of presenting research information, but we are attempting to provide in as brief a space as possible the data that will help others identify the lines that are being followed, and determine whether their data fits into one of those lines. Also, the list is generated with volunteer labor, and the time just isn't available to reformat every submission to this list. Therefore the closer you get to the others here the more likely it will get posted quickly. This format also closely matches the syntax used in many of the older genealogy publications, and we find their formatting quite clear. Surely those of us who are researching our ancestorial family can learn a thing or two from our ancestors .. model those things that they did well.
We wish you all well in your genealogy research!
